Keyless Prius

Home

I walk up to the driver's door, the door automatically unlocks and the alarm system turns off.  I get in, close the door and all the doors lock.  Then I put on my seatbelt, the Prius automatically starts up.  Once I get where I'm going, I put it in Park, unbuckle the seatbelt and the Prius shuts down.  After I get out of the car, I close the driver's door and all the doors immediately lock and the alarm sets.

The system I installed is a proximity card access system.  The driver's door unlocks because I have a prox card in my wallet and a prox reader installed right behind the door handle.  So, when my back pocket gets within range of the reader, the access system sends a 1 second pulse ground to the KUL input of the Power Window Master SW.  It also starts a timer that gives me approximately 4 minutes to get in and fasten my seatbelt.  Once I do that, the access control panel sends appropriate outputs to relays that interface with the ignition switch wires and simulate an ignition on and does a 1 second "start" pulse.  I have the driver's side door courtesy switch wired to an input that links to an output which pulses a 1 second ground to the KL input so every time the driver's door is closed, the Prius gets a signal that you've put in the key and locked all doors (which also sets the alarm).

The access panel is Keri Systems model PXL-250 Tiger Controller with the SB-293 Satellite Board.  That SB-293 board gives me the extra inputs and outputs I need.  The reader is model MS-5000 MiniStar Proximity Reader and I use the KC-10 Standard Light Proximity Card.  You can see pics and find out more about these at:  http://www.kerisys.com/

As in my other mods, I didn't cut any wires or make any modifications that can't be reversed to put the Prius back to factory condition if I ever wanted to.  For power, I use a 25AH gel cell backup battery which sits in the trunk.  The access panel and a relay box fits under the driver's seat.  There's a solar panel to help keep the backup battery charged, and the Prius charging system helps out when it's running.  All are separated/protected using diodes.  Power from the Prius is taken off the "CIG" fuse, so when the car's off, the panel can't drain the Prius' battery.  The key and/or remote will still work as before.

The "Doors" software is installed on my notebook, so any programming changes I need to make are easy.
